The fund supports artistic and cultural talent and leadership, aiming to give an international dimension to excellent work. Journeys Festival International strives to identify and present exceptional work and extraordinary talents of refugee artists, using art to share, discuss and highlight their personal experiences.
The award will enable ArtReach to take the Journeys Festival International programme to the streets of Manchester and Portsmouth from 2016-2018, building on the success of the previous three yearly festivals in Leicester.
“At such a profound moment, when thousands flee places of strife, conflict and persecution, and when the European project is under such scrutiny, we will be opening eyes, challenging perceptions and raising questions through great Art.” ArtReach director, David Hill.
“We’re delighted to be investing in ArtReach’s ambitious plans to turns its Journeys Festival into a national event. At the heart of our Creative Case for Diversity is the ambition to celebrate all of the artistic talents England is home to. ArtReach shares this aim and Journeys Festival International is a step forward to share work being created by refugee artists with more people across the country.” Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England.
