ArtReach is thrilled to announce the first Journeys Festival; a two day outdoor, multi art-form event in the heart of Leicester City Centre on Sunday 25th & Monday 26th August.
Journeys Festival has been created by ArtReach in response to the exciting talents of artist refugees coming to the UK. From across the globe artists from all disciplines have sought sanctuary in this country, often bringing stories of extraordinary journeys (both physical and emotional).
Over two days Journeys Festival will engage audiences with a melting-pot of cultures and invite people to experience the refreshing flair and originality of work produced by Refugee Artists who have settled in the East Midlands, and further afield.
Using a special Festival Village Journeys Festival will encompass a cross section of different art-forms:
- Live acoustic and amplified music in and around the City Arts Dome
- Moving Image in the famous ArtReach Nanoplex
- Visual and digital arts on a bespoke mobile exhibition stand
- Street style performance, dance and spoken word.
The Festival aims to build on the success ArtReach has had producing live events for the Platforma Network (platforma.org.uk), and using artists within the network, it will create a diverse and exciting programme that raises the profile of Refugee Artists in the area and helps in the development of their careers.
The Festival will form part of Leicester’s City Festival and will play an integral role in promoting the people and places of the City.
