Night of Festivals has been originated and developed by ArtReach under the artistic direction of David Hill. In 2010 the project focused on celebrating the Bicentenary of Latin American independence.
Night of Festivals 2010 was developed for Old Market Square, Nottingham and ran for three days from 16-18 September. Celebrating the two hundred year anniversary of the beginning of Latin American independence from Spain, and of the Mexican Revolution, the programme included a special film commission, Cine-Opera, from international composer/film maker Michael Nyman. Live music and moving image was represented from Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil, and carnival arts from Colombia, Mexico and Brazil in an extraordinary, live carnival procession. Dignitaries from the Colombian, Mexican, Peruvian and Chilean Embassies to London attended the special Civic Reception at Nottingham’s Council House.
