NCA Indian Drum Circle

Northwood Community Arts

Since 2006 ArtReach has been working with the Northwood community in London Borough of Hillingdon to initiate and develop a vibrant community arts centre. The idea was developed in partnership with St John’s United Reformed Church in Northwood, which had spare capacity in its facilities and was ambitious to develop wider creative, community involvement.

With ArtReach support the project has developed to build an intensive, continuous and innovative programme (see www.northwoodcommunityarts.co.uk) with local people providing substantial volunteer involvement and having established the project as a registered charity – Northwood Community Arts. The regular programme includes – participatory textile and dance classes; circus skills workshops for children; and a programme of family theatre presentations. A number of exciting one-off projects have been developed, including a special heritage programme to explore the role of St John’s church as a VAD Hospital in World War 1.

Most recently, with support from Arts Council England, NCA has staged an exciting World Arts Platform programme with world storytelling, South Asian music, African dance, Chinese performance and participatory samba workshops. ArtReach provides programming support, fundraising and project management.
