Since the beginning of February 2012, ArtReach has been working in partnership with Nottingham City Council to deliver an exciting programme of dance and costume design workshops for young people
The project is part of the Dress the World exhibitions in Nottingham, Leicester and Northampton. Taking inspiration from each of the museum’s extensive collections, three groups of enthusiastic young participants have had the opportunity to work with Ali Pretty from international design company Kinetika (www.kinetika.co.uk) to inform the design of a series of one-of-a-kind, handmade costumes which are currently being made in Kinetika’s London studio. The groups have since been working with three established choreographers to develop a wide range of dance skills and street theatre techniques.
We can’t give too much away about the project at this point, but we can say that the groups areworking towards something really spectacular! To whet your appetite, here are the initial costume designs which were inspired by the collections that will be in each of the exhibitions from 31st March…
This project is funded by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts initiative.
