ArtReach is working with Bath and North East Somerset Council to deliver a special carnival project in Bath this summer – Rio Carnival Quest.
Throughout the summer holidays over 100 local participants will work with Latin American artists from Mandinga Arts and Paraiso Samba, as well as experienced local artists helping design, make and animate Brazilian style costumes, and learning and performing the rhythms and music of samba and Rio.
The workshop activities will culminate in a processional performance, as part of the Paralympics Flame Festival in Bath city centre on Saturday 25 August. The costumed procession will be led by the Paralympics Flame and joined by the local Jamma de Samba band and a specially constructed vehicle from the Battle for the Winds show.
This exciting project heralds the commencement of the Paralympics and celebrates the start of a new Olympic journey – the Rio Cultural Olympiad leading to summer 2016 in Brazil.
