Project Description

Journeys Festival International celebrates the artistic talents and incredible stories of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists. Beginning in 2013, the festival works across a wide range of creative media and disciplines including live music, hands-on artist-led workshops, theatre, performance, film, discussion, exhibitions and pop-up events. Journeys Festival International aims to bring the talent of local, national and international refugee artists to the general public – creating a positive interface with the community.

Journeys Festival International will return to the UK cities of Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth. Elements of the festival will also be taken to the cities of Palermo, Rome, Hamburg and Budapest under the JOURNEYS project, funded by Creative Europe.

ArtReach is the East Midlands Coordinator for Platforma – a national network for refugee & asylum seeker artists. Platforma was established as a result of a report published by Arts Council England, The Baring Foundation & The Paul Hamlyn Foundation in 2008 entitled Arts & Refugees: History, Impact & Future.

The network aims to support and develop arts by, about and with refugees and migrants from marginalised communities.
